#Maserati Set To Unveil Small SUV Grecale

[Auto Styling News]

The Maserati Grecale has been spotted with no camouflage for the first time ahead of a public debut tomorrow, March 22.

New images posted on Instagram by Wilco Blok show the Porsche Macan rival in full production-spec bodywork.

It was wearing some of the promotional stickers seen in some recent teaser images, but largely appears as it will at a full official unveiling tomorrow.

The Grecale, named for a Mediterranean wind system, is the second SUV from the Italian automaker, the first being the larger Levante.

#Lucid Air Is Winning Awards And Delivering EV Luxury

[Auto Styling News]

Lucid Air was awarded MotorTrend’s Car of the Year late last year, competing successfully against a formidable field of 24 competitors from major manufacturers.

The win marked the first time that the initial product from a new automotive company has been awarded MotorTrend’s flagship Car of the Year award.

Designed in Silicon Valley and built in Arizona, Lucid Air delivers an industry-leading 500+ miles of range from Lucid’s proprietary powertrain technology, which is designed and built in-house.

The announcement followed the start of customer deliveries for the fully-reserved Lucid Air Dream Edition, a car that retails at $169,000. The lower end Air is a bit cheaper, at 77,000, and reservations for the Dream have already closed.

The dream comes with a mind-blowing 1, 111 horsepower, which blows almost anything off the road except a Tesla Plaid, which is just about it's only EV competition.

The exterior styling of this beautiful car immediately tells you that it is a luxury vehicle.

Not only is Lucid Air simply stunning, it’s also among the most aerodynamic cars in the world — with a 0.21 coefficient of drag. Inspired by the elegant shape of aircraft, we aimed for clean lines in every detail to create a phenomenally fluid form. Even functional features like the autonomous driving sensors were sculpted in seamlessly.

Exterior lighting is another way Air gets its wow factor. Designed entirely in-house, the Intelligent Micro Lens Array headlights are dazzling. And at the rear, a sweeping speedform taillight creates an uninterrupted impression of light and depth.

And this luxury EV is winning hearts and minds. Legendary Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, a disenchanted former Tesla owner, recently took delivery of his Lucid Air.

EV Automaker Rivian Sees Stocks Plummet After Bad Fourth Quarter

[Auto Styling News]

Rivian, the U.S. electric automaker that went public late last year, reported its fourth-quarter financial results and calendar 2021 outcome, results that along with its production forecast for 2022 disappointed Wall Street and sent shares to a new low, according to TechCrunch.

Screenshot from Robinhood app 3/10/22
The company (trading as RIVN) are holding steady at just below $36 a share, after losing 12% of its value in after hours trading on Thursday. That followed losing 6% of its value Thursday during daily trading.

A worldwide computer chip shortage, lingering doubts about future energy supplies, and range anxiety are all creating a perfect storm that is causing EV adoption hesitancy in the electric car market, despite a great deal of hype from the auto industry itself.

That is having a serious effect on startups like Rivian and lesser known companies like Canoo (GOEV) an electric automaker that has also has seen its stock plummet in recent months (it stands at $5.76 a share, down 1.35% Thursday) despite a new factory having been constructed in Oklahoma and promises of their van-like Lifestyle vehicle being produced by the end of the fourth quarter of this year - the seemingly ambitious goal that is also being doubted among those watching Rivian.

Nevertheless, Rivian produced just over 900 vehicles by the end of 2021, despite the fact that this was not enough to turn a profit.

GM, Ford See Profits Tank As Microchip Shortage Affects Production Of New Vehicles

[Auto Styling News]

The Wall Street Journal reports that the worldwide microchip shortage is taking a toll on profits at two major care manufacturers hoping to cash in on the newfound popularity of electric vehicles.

The two largest U.S. auto makers reported steep drops in third-quarter profit as the computer-chip shortage dented factory output, and each said the problem would leave dealership lots nearly bare well into 2022.

Executives from General Motors Co. and rival Ford Motor Co. said the supply-chain disruptions should slowly improve in the fourth quarter and throughout next year, although strong car demand will make it difficult to restock dealership lots.

The Journal reports that GM says its net profit dropped 40% in the third quarter, while Ford reported a 23% decline in net income compared with the same year-ago quarter.

#Hyundai Launches Handsome #IONIQ 5 EV

[Auto Styling News]
Just one look at the introduction photographs of Hyundai's IONIQ 5, and you'll instantly be taken by how startlingly handsome this vehicle is.

The Korean carmaker days it is partnering with Electrify America to give buyers two years of complimentary access to the largest public fast-charging network in the US. The IONIQ 5 can be charged while on-the-go in as little as 30 minutes.

#Nissan Unveils Electric #Ariya SUV

[Auto Styling News]

The all-new 2023 Nissan Ariya electric crossover model is getting closer to its upcoming U.S. on-sale date with the opening of a special reservation portal, giving customers the opportunity to be one of the first to purchase the most advanced and connected Nissan vehicle ever.

Four Nissan Ariya SUV models will initially be available for sale in late 2022.

The preliminary 2023 Ariya reservation model lineup, specifications and initial MSRP starts at $45,950 for the Venture+ front-wheel drive model. Pricing for additional Ariya models will be announced at a later date.

Additionally, the first 10,000 reservations made before Jan. 31, 2022 will qualify for a two year free EVgo membership plus $500 in charging credits upon purchase. That's worth up to an estimated 5,000 miles of EV driving for the Ariya Venture+.

The all-new Ariya is "the embodiment of the new Nissan," says Michael Colleran, senior vice president, Nissan U.S. and Marketing and Sales. "Ariya leverages our decade of expertise selling mass-market EVs, uniquely positioning Nissan and our dealers to deliver both a thrilling vehicle and outstanding ownership experience."

The company says the Ariya will be a cornerstone to the Nissan NEXT global transformation plan and is the first production model to represent the company’s new electrified brand identity.

Nissan has for years sold electric vehicles like the Leaf, but this SUV is taking this to the next level.

Visually, this crossover bears a scary similarity to several others hitting the market this year and next. The front end, at least, bears Nissan's signature styling, but the sides and rear could be mistaken for a Hyundai, or a KIA. Or the new electric Ford Mustang SUV.

Not that it's in any way unpleasant to look at, it's just that once a trend gets started, every car company copies it, endlessly.

Nissan has announced a target that more than 40 percent of its U.S. vehicle sales by 2030 will be fully electric, with even more to be electrified.
